An Interview with Mike Miller

"It was Mike Miller who got me into photography. I met Mike around 1989 when I started Freshjive. Rap music was making a progressive step on the West Coast and the relatively few people that were really into that music and that scene in Los Angeles tended to know one another or frequent the same spots.

Mike Miller is effortlessly and sincerely the real deal, and I don’t throw those words around lightly. Besides the immense amount of influential work, his ease, confidence and personal ethos has been a major inspiration to me, and this video is an effort to pass that inspiration around the world like a big fat community blunt.”

Marjoe Gortner: The Miracle Child

“Hello my name is Marjoe Gortner and I’m here to give the devil two black eyes.”

Before he learned to say “Mama” or “Poppa,” he was taught to sing “Hallelujah!” At nine months, his mother taught him the proper way to shout “glory” into the microphone. By the age of three, he could preach the gospel by memory. His name is Marjoe Gortner, and he is known as the youngest preacher in American history, ordained at the age of four. Born on January 14th, 1944 in Long Beach California, Marjoe was the son of Vernon Gortner a third generation minister who guided his son’s career as a preacher. Nearly strangled to death by his own umbilical chord during his birth, doctors told his mother it was a miracle that he survived, and thus, “Marjoe” was born; a combination of the biblical names Mary and Joseph. professional debut and is destined to be one tough contender to be reckoned

Introducing the Freshjive Holiday 2011 collection featuring Left Brain and Hodgy Beats from Mellowhype.

Influenced by the dirty rotten filthy streets of downtown’s Skid Row, the collection was photographed in the dirty rotten filthy alley behind the Freshjive factory. The Mellowhype boys reign in full effect, along with a cast of background characters (a wheelchair handicapped homeless man, his girl, and streetwalker Nene) ending with a bad bad bitch gettin’ bagged and sagged (and maybe even shagged) right on out of frame.
