Marjoe Gortner: The Miracle Child

“Hello my name is Marjoe Gortner and I’m here to give the devil two black eyes.”
Before he learned to say “Mama” or “Poppa,” he was taught to sing “Hallelujah!” At nine months, his mother taught him the proper way to shout “glory” into the microphone. By the age of three, he could preach the gospel by memory. His name is Marjoe Gortner, and he is known as the youngest preacher in American history, ordained at the age of four. Born on January 14th, 1944 in Long Beach California, Marjoe was the son of Vernon Gortner a third generation minister who guided his son’s career as a preacher. Nearly strangled to death by his own umbilical chord during his birth, doctors told his mother it was a miracle that he survived, and thus, “Marjoe” was born; a combination of the biblical names Mary and Joseph. Steven Harrington X Generic Surplus in Monster Children

In conjunction with the Steven Harrington for Generic Surplus desert boot launching Spring 12, Harrington and photographer Brigitte Sire headed to Joshua Tree to embark upon a journey based on the artist’s fascination with the legend of the crystal skulls.

Intrigued by the fact that all thirteen skulls were never discovered, Harrington took it upon himself to create and bury a crystal skull in the desert, hoping that his offering would produce the unearthing of the last remaining crystal skull known in existence: The thirteenth crystal skull, carrying the deepest secrets about the origins of the universe.

The result of the expedition is documented in a tear-out booklet included as part of the newest issue of Monster Children, one of our favorite magazines combining  surfing, skateboarding, photography, and music.

Monster Children Issue 33 will be on sale at selected newsstands nationwide tomorrow, December 21stPurchase Issue 33 at: http://monsterchildren.com/magazine/

An Inaccurate Look at the Making of a Fitzsimmons

A child doesn’t listen to a fairy tale and scream, THAT COULD NOT HAPPEN! The same goes for this Native data entry job. What’s to doubt in this dreamy scavenge at a stopwatch pace? A mad shoemaker for sure underwent this lush trial by bizarre ordeal and stoically bore the high blood pressure of forgotten alchemists. All of this along with a drop of Pepto-Bismol to mingle with all the computer-electrical secrets of heaven and Voila! The indomitable Fitzsimmons sure has been cannoned onto your lucky and happier than ever before foot http://vimeo.com/33172631.
