Freshjive's Rick Klotz - Transworld Business Article

Though Rick Klotz’s two labels Freshjive and Warriors of Radness can indisputably described as “streetwear” and “surf” respectively, he is highly protective that both of them are not associated with the general public perception of both of those categories. In 2010, he stripped all logos and branding from Freshjive product except on the hangtags, replacing it with a blank horizontal rectangle and repositioned the look of the look and quality of Freshjive as a contemporary market product. Warriors of Radness has very controlled distribution in only the upper tier surf shops and tastemaker contemporary stores. In 2011, Klotz’s singular vision was recognized as a nominee for GQ’s Best New Menswear Designer award (fellow nominees were surf/coastal label Riviera Club, Patrick Ervell, Gant by Michael Bastian, Miller’s Oath designer Kirk Miller and T by Alexander Wang). The inside of his retail outpost, Reserve in Los Angeles sums up the designer’s academic dedication to the pop culture and counter culture that inspires his clothing—Freshjive tees and Warriors of Radness muscle pants occupy one half of the store and the other is filled with vintage nudie glossies, punk zines, obscure art hardcovers and music books.
